HAND CARVED COROZO TEMPLE - FRENCH EMPIRE PERIOD AROUND 1810

Superb small work from the early 19th century, of a beautiful design very thoroughly carved, representing a portative temple.
This corresponds to the period between the french empire and the french restoration, around 1800-1820.
The form imitates a little temple.
A high pedestal is ornamented with a stylized waves frieze, between two friezes of interlaced circles. A top egg shaped frieze ends this base.
Above is the niche, belted with a succession of columns, whose lateral edges are scalloped. These columns present archivaults, both at the top and at the bottom. Likewise, the opening of the niche features an archivault. In the spandrels, two quatrefoils are hollowed.
The top part of this little temple is a dome, bulb shaped, covered of fish scales tiles, over an egg-shaped frieze.
The roof is topped by a cross.
These works of carved corozo were realised during the first third of the 19th century, by the religious congregations, in the abbeyes or the convents .
Our item is really delicatly chiselled.
Very good condition.
