19th CENTURY SAMSON'S MANUFACTORY FLOWER VASE - ACCORDING TO A 18th CENTURY MODEL BY OLERYS LAUGIER CADET'S MANUFACTORY IN MOUSTIERS

Superb flower vase in neoclassical style, from Louis XVI period around 1775, decorated of animated scenes featuring personnages into medallions. It was realised around the middle 19th century, by Samson's manufactory according to a 18th century Moustiers model, of the Olérys Laugier Cadet manufactory. This flower vase is signed beneath its base, with the handwritten signature of Olérys Laugier Cadet.

It was indeed a vase by Olérys Laugier Cadet's manufactory, which had been used as the model

Faïence by high-fire polychromic decor, in yellow, green , blue and purples colors, on white background.

The decor is constituted of friezes in foliages, and of beautiful garlands located on the most salient frieze.

But these are the scenes in the medallions, on the forefront and back sides, which give to this faïence its specific quality.

Some personnages, dressed to the antic, are represented in a wooded and hilly countryside..

On one of the side, the personnage is standing before a little votive monument, holding one hand on his heart.

Placed on four foliages feet, the lidded vase, of rectangular section, with chamfered corners, shows curved moldings, in cyma profile.

Likewise for the lid..

The handles have a greek shape. The handle lid is a big purple rose, with its leaves falling on the lid.

History : Samson had built a special atelier, where the most talentuous potters and painters had been selected to realize reproductions of historic pieces. Their know-how had allowed the faïences to be perfectly recopied, but in a very small number of copies

The condition of the object is good. We had to report a little chip under the lid, of some millimeters, together with some enamel lacks on the salient parts of the object (corners, handles and feet)

Measures, including handles : 10,50 inches in lenght by 6,50 inches in widht  -  (26.5 l x 16,5 cm w)

Height: 9,25 inches  (23.5 cm)
