VANITAS - OIL ON CANVAS MAROUFLEE ON PANEL - MINIATURE - FRENCH SCHOOL FROM THE 18th CENTURY Oil on canvas miniature painting representing a vanitas. A young woman is meditating, a hand put on a skull which covers a cross. The skull is placed on a flat stone, kind of altar of circumstance. The young lady, her long hair falling down on her shoulders, is holding a chalice near her heart. Her meditative look is oriented among the sky, in metaphysical thoughts. The natural environment is strong, free, with in the forefront, an opulent vegetation of trees and bushes, and in the foreground, monts and shores. The painting has been cut on its margins, with no doubt by the fact of a damaged chassis, and glued on an oak panel. It is in good condition, with some small punctual lacks of pigment on the edges. It is framed with a gilt frame with palmettos, from a posterior epoch, early 19th century. Measures: 4,25 inches by 4 inches - (11 cm by 10).
