Beautiful antique coffret for toiletries, signed Louis Aucoc Ainé

It's made of rosewood, with a garniture on the corners and edges, of brass strips. It has two foldable handles. It is covered inside, of a blue night leather

It contains:

-Inside the lid, a tripod miror, of bronze

-At the first level:

3 big flacons of crystal, their lids and mounts of silver. They are decorated with chiselled rows od half pearls. Chiselled medallion in the middle, crowned with ribbonned laurels. Monogram AH

- A big silver and crystal goblet, with screwed lid, a big cristal box with a silver lid, a mechanical scabbard  with shaving brush, a crystal box equiped with an hermetic silver lid

 a travel inkwell, 3 round boxes (a base of crystal is absent ), 2 boxes, one elongate shaped, and the other rectangular shaped

 All accessories are of crystal and silver ,

All silver parts have the Louis Aucoc Ainé hallmark, and the french hallmark Minerva, for silversmiths's works official control..

-At the second level:

Writing kit (silver fountain pen, seal, various accessories), a knife shaver, a total of 18pièces

-At the last level:

6 boxes of blue night moroco leather, including a shoehorn, a strop, and brushes

So, this superb travel case for toiletriese is nearly complet (it only misses a little crystal base, and 3 secondary instruments), It is in perfect condition and made of precious materials .

During the first Restoration period, early 19th century, the Aucoc company was specialised about coffrets for toiletries, for ladies and gentlemen, travel desks, liquor cellars, kits, wallets, game boxes, etc.. In 1844, the company received the silver medal from the 'Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie'. During the second Empire period, in the mid 19th century, Aucoc company, directed by Louis Aucoc Aîné, obtains a first class medal from the 'Exposition Universelle de 1855, exposition visited by Queen Victoria accompanied by Napoléon III.

SILVER CRUET STAND - EGYPTIAN STYLE - 1st EMPIRE PERIOD - EGYPTIAN CARYATIDS - SILVERSMITH DUPEZARD - FRENCH HALLMARK WITH THE COCK

Rare silver cruet from France, 'Retour d'Egypte' period, end 18th century. This rare style only lasted ten to twelve years, between 1799 and 1810

 1st Empire epoch, hallmark with the lictor beam, dating from 1798, and hallmark with the cock, from the 1st of novembre 1809

Silversmith : DUPEZARD  , Paris(SJD initials on the hallmarks)

Egyptian caryatids, with hieratic attitudes and faces, form the pilasters of the nacelles. There are 3 caryatids for each one

The central handle is made with a column, square shaped, , ornamented with 2 tall caryatids, who show from their feet to their head.

These two female figures are thoroughly chiselled, whether their faces, their chest, or their feet

Complementary motives are:

- Palmettos and rosettes, applied on the basis and the column, or chiselled on the pilasters bodies.

- Lion's or sphinx's claws at the bottom

- Water leaves of the friezes, at the bottom of the base, on the edges of the nacelles, and on the supports of the lids

-Crowned bouquet, at the top of the female figures

Differents hallmarks are visible on the constitutive elements of the work :

-Silversmith hallmark, SJD initials, that we can see on the main base of the cruet, on the bottom of the nacelles, and on the edges of it

-Hallmark control, with the lictor beam, that dates from the 17th of june 1798. This one is very small, rectangular, and we can see it on the central column

-Hallmark with the cock, 1st title (for 950/1000 silver), and guarantee hallmark of Paris, these two hallmarks dating from the 1st of november 1809. We can find them under the main base, at the bottom of the nacelles, and on the edges of it

In 1920, Jean Puiforcat, son of  Louis-Victor and Laure Puiforcat, becomes silversmith at the age of 23. With him, the company is part of the forefront of the contemporary silversmithing. Regularly reedited, his work goes on to inspire research and creation within contemporary collections of the company

After a first noticed participation at the 'salon des Artistes décorateurs' in 1921, Jean Puiforcat imposes his talent at the 'Exposition internationale des Arts décoratifs de Paris'.

From the early 19th century, nice rectangular silver box, thoroughly chiselled and enamelled of russian arabescs on a central motive

Beautiful chiselling of arabescs foliages on the lid and under the box too, where is engraved in the middle a three russian letters monogram.

These are JPS initials

The russian enamels ornaments have some little lacks

The inside is treated with vermeil, which is in good condition.

This russian box has been re-controlled when introduced into France, and bearS the french Minerva hallmark.

There is a silversmith hallmark in a lozenge, dating from the 1st part of the 19th

Finally, there is a third stranger hallmark, round, certainly russian

Rare russian champagne flute, of silver, chiselled and enamelled all around its faces

Very nice shape, with a tall ringed leg on round base, topped of a cup divided in two parts:

- A first level, of 8 curved ribs, , and over a second level, circular, that goes flaring at the top edge of the flute

The base, as well as the two part of the cup, are finely chiselled of russian arabescs, black enamelled.

The surfaces of the flute are treated with vermeil

The flute bears four hallmarks (see late photo) :

-Town hallmark : Moscow, end 18th to early 19th century

-Assayer hallmark : Nikolaï Lukich  Dubrovin, circa 1830

Elegant silver cruet stand, with shape of boat hull, from french Directory period. He was realised by the silversmith Ambroise Mignerot,
in the very end of the 18th century.
Hull shaped, with winding up prows, with at their end, a ring

The cruet is quadripod , with two nacelles presenting an ornementation of arcades, and a big central handle decorated at the top, with a water foliage frieze
We can admire an engraved escutcheon on each side of the object, showing two backed chimerical animals
One of the coat of arms bears the letters 'BF', calligraphied
Numerous hallmarks are stamped on the different constitutive elements of the work: base, nacelles, handle (see detailed photos) :
- Silversmith's hallmark , initials AM , for Antoine Mignerot.
- Hallmark of the 1st cock, 1st title , from Paris, 1797-1809.

SILVER AND VERMEIL STRAINER - EARLY 19th CENTURY - OLD MAN'S HEAD HALLMARK - ROCOCO STYLE

Very decorative silver strainer, with parcel gilt on the bowl, from the early 19th century.
This strainer is tripode. It's in rococo style, with the repeated use of the shell motive.
We find it at the bottom and at the top of the feet, accompanied of foliage scrolls.
We can see it aswell on the edge of the pierced bowl, embellished of garlands.
A nice gadrooned frieze complete the ornamentation of the edge.
The bowl presents a nice pattern of little curved and cons-curved tongues.
 
This strainer bears:

- the old man's head hallmark, guaranteeing the silver purity,
- the silversmith hanllmark (see last photo).

The handle is ornamented with a monogram

SET OF 6 DESSERT FLATWARE IN VERMEIL ENGRAVED OF FAUNS HEADS -

1st EMIRE PERIOD CIRCA 1800

Six dessert flatware in vermeil, (a total of 12 items), with a rich decor on the handle, in a mandorla, featuring a faune head emerging from convolvulus twigs.
Not only the motive is really original, but the quality of the chiselling, for each of the items, is impeccable.
The style is one of the french directory, in the very end od the 18th century.
Of french directory style, (very end 18th century),
The items are, for 4 of them, from french directory period, consulate period, or 1st empire period, as evidenced the 1st coq hallmark stamped, in force from 1798 to 1807.
4 other items are from the period Louis XVIII, bearing the old man's head hallmark, used between 1819 and 1838.
Finally, the last four items have unfortunately their hallmark erased.
The symbol of the silversmith hallmark is a hunting horn.
The items bears the monogram PS, calligraphied in gothic letters.
The whole set is in good condition:
Items without deformations, teeth of the forks with no wears, and vermeil layer with no erasure.

Series of four silver salt cellars, two for the pepper, and two for the salt. Those intended for salt are covered of a gold layer.
The style totally refers to the end 18th english style, by the soberness and the elegancy of the shape:
The salt cellars are circular, and presents a general profile in curves and cons-curves. The pedestal is large at its base and tightens at the junction with the cups. Those have a semi spheric shape, and a cyma molding profile, with the edge well flared. Some streaks surround the feet.
The items bears at the bottom of their feet, the town hallmark and the date hallmark, corresponding to London, 1794.

PAIR OF SILVER CRUETS FRAMES - BY JEAN-BAPTISTE SIMON LEFRANC SILVERSMITH - PUTTI AND BUTTERFLY COMPOSITION

Pair of silver cruets frames, realised by the famous silversmith Jean-Baptiste Simon LEFRANC

Poinçon au vieillard 1er titre, Paris 1819-1938, époque restauration

Silver net weight : 1.328 grams

The stylistic composition is really very charming.

The bases, elongated shaped, edged with a frieze of hearts, are placed over four lions paws,

linked to the bases by carved palmettos.

The nacelles have three pilasters, very decorated of tall etrusc vases with swan necks,

surmonted of laurels crowns with butterflies facing each other.

We see again the frieze of hearts on the nacelles edges.

These nacelles are linked by a charming handle, whom the base is made of a carved half moon, showing a putto laid on a flowered garland, and who is holding a butterfly by a thread.

This half moon with the angel is present on each side of the work.

The large central handle, etrusc vase shaped, is surmonted by a ring ornamented with palmettos and cornucopias.

The finishing of this very rich carved ornamentation is little dot hammered, making the least detail perfect.

These cruet frame may be without contest, be classified among the collection pieces of silversmithing.

These works bears the silversmith hallmark, JBSL initials, for Jean-Baptise Simon Lefranc, and the silver control hallmark, with the old man profile for the 950/1000 silver (equivalent to sterling silver).

This last hallmark was used between 1818 and 1839.

Each element composing the work is hallmarked: base, nacelle, etc.., including each baluster of the nacelles.

The two items are in very good condition, with no lacks.

Weight : 1328 grams (respectively 666 and 662 grams)

SILVER MILK POT WITH LID - LOUIS XVIII PERIOD

OLD MAN HALLMARK 1819-1838

Silver milk pot with its lid, Louis XVI style, and dating from early 19th century, Louis XVIII period, between 1814 and 1824.

It has a cylindrical, or more precisely, a slightly tronconical shape. The top edge has a little spout. On the body, a turned wood handle is fixed almost orthogonally. It is equipped with a lid, nicely ornamented with water leaves, gently chiselled. The handle of the lid is a little oak acorn.

This french model is called 'laitière' and has its origin in the Louis XVI period, circa 1775.

Silver control hallmark, with the old man head, used between 1819 and 1838.

DRAGEES POT IN SILVER ORNAMENTED WITH MASKS OF WOMEN - VENISE HALLMARK - EARLY19th CENTURY

Venetian lidded pot, in chiselled silver, dating from the early 19th century.

It is punched with the lombardy-veneto's silver control hallmark , with the Venise's town hallmark, and with the silversmith's hallmark which remains to determine.

The pot is placed on three large legs ornamented of women masks, which go up to the top of the pot, and end on the other side, in hoof shape. These legs are in elegant curves and cons-curves.

The cup of the dragées pot is half-sphere shaped, prolonged by a cylindrical ring.

The lid is bell shaped, composed of a half-sphere, which extends at its base by a wide curved edge, slightly inclined, and exceeding widely the edge of the cup. This edge is gently decorated of a of the cup.

The handle of thehammered pattern, drawing radial segments. Likewise, we find this same pattern at the top lid is oak acorn shaped, accompanied of applied nice oak leaves covering the top of the lid.

-Venise's town hallmark, from the 19th century (ferro de prua).

-Lombardy-Veneto silver control hallmark (heptagon shape, with 7 stars).

-Silversmith hallmark.

SILVER DOUBLE SALT CELLAR - FIRST EMPIRE PERIOD EARLY 19th - SILVERSMITH ANTOINE HIENCE IN PARIS

2nd cock hallmark , Paris 1809

The pierced mount stands on arched feet, hoof shaped, topped by heads of winged satyrs, the handle adorned at the bottom, with scalloped ribs, supports a ring, hemmed with palmettos.

The nacelles have a chiseled edge composed of water leaves.

The whole object is finely chiseled.

The two glass jars have a fluting. One of the jars is slightly ground glass, on the exterior edge, but this is absolutly not visible while the jar is placed in its mount.

The jars are in good condition. Being of blown glass, they shows slight differences.

The silversmith Antoine Hience was set up at the 2, Quai des Orfèvres, Paris 2ème.

Its hallmark, punched on the object, has for symbol two crossed navy anchors, with below the uppercase letter H.

Also on the salt cellar, we can see the Paris hallmark, at the 2nd cock, 1st title (950/1000 of silver). This hallmark was used from the 1st november of 1809, until july 1819.

Plus the Paris guarantee halmmark.

PAIR OF SILVER SALT CELLARS WITH VICTORIES - FRENCH REVOLUTIONARY PERIOD - HALLMARK FROM THE YEAR V

These double salt cellars forming a pair, are of silver, thoroughly chiselled. Rich and original, the ornamentation features 12 beautiful caryatids, deployed wings, which surround the nacelles. These caryatids take birth from the feet of the nacelles, where they stay sheathed in.

Rich stylistic composition, in the late 1st french empire style, .

Winged sphinges buttress the base of the fluted central handle.

At the top, these are crowned by victories that support the handle ring.

The rectangular terrace is decorated with laurels leaves. This terrace is placed on four big lion paws.

The pilasters of the nacelles represent cornucopias. Their edges are chiselled of water leaves.

The lid support, settled in little compartments of the pedestal, are ornamented with a same water leaves frieze.

The work bears on its different constitutive elements, several hallmarks:

- Silversmith hallmark : Basnier.

- Silver control hallmark : Old man, used between 1819 and 1838.

12 SILVER HERALDIC BEARINGS FLAWARE - MARQUESS OF SALIGNAC-FENELON - SILVERSMITH P. QUEILLE - FRENCH RESTORATION PERIOD

 
12 silver dessert flatware with the armorial bearings of the Marquis de SALIGNAC-FENELON. This set dates from the 1st half 19th century.
These pieces have a magnificent ornamentation of shells and palmettes, forming arabesques, carved in a pronounced embossing, and delicatly chiselled.
We have to stress that this beautiful french restoration style ornamentation is present on the two sides.  
Coming from an aristocratic family, the monogram SF, engraved with calligraphied letters, is crowned with a crown of marquess. 
The items are punched by the Minerva hallmark (1st époque just after the Old man hallmark, circa 1838),
except one, that bears the old man's hallmark (1819-1838).
They bears too, the silversmith hallmark, with initials PQ, for Pierre Queille.
This set comes from the family De Salignac-Fénelon.
All the forks and spoons are in perfect condition, with no wears.

Stylistically, this object can be classified in the rococo style of the mid 18th century.

Very thorough chiselling.

The coffeepot bears the silver control hallmark, Minerva 1st title, of 950/1000 silver purity almost equivalent to sterling silver.

It bears too the silversmith hallmark of Charles Tirbour.

CASTER OF SILVER AND CRYSTAL - SILVERSMITH: LEON LAPAR -

END 19th CENTURY


Silver and crystal caster, baluster shape, with an ornamentation of palmettes. It dates from the end of the 19th century, and is designed in a Louis XVI style.
The pedestal, round, presents a base of three rungs, the central with a frieze decorated with knotted streaks on an ovolo molding. This base is nearly flat.
Over it, the crystal vessel, faceted surface, is embedded in its silver mount, made at its base of a great corolla of flowers, and at the top, of a flattened cupola, with again, the knoted streaks frieze.
The cupola tightens up to the neck, where a magnificent lid is screwed.
This big lid, bulb shaped, presents a base with a double rank of foliages. Above is designed a charming pattern of pierced interlaced circles. It is topped by a nice bud.

The item bears, on these constitutive elements, both the silversmith hallmark, of Léon Lapar, and the silver control hallmark Minerva 1st title, equivalent to the sterling silver (a 950/1000 purity silver).
This caster is in very good condition.

Beautiful mustard pot, of silver and crystal, from the first third of the 19th century.
On a four ball feet squared pedestal, four dolphins lie on an acanthus frieze. They bear the crystal vessel, decorated with reeded ribs. The vessel is embedded in its silver mount.
The handles have an ornamentation composed of two long neck fantastic animals.
The hinged lid, which presents a molding in cavetto, is topped by a little handle, pine cone shaped.
Beautiful friezes complete these main ornaments, among which a water leaves frieze unde the silver edge of the crystal vessel.
Note on our photos the thorough execution of the chiselling.
This works dates from the first third of the 19th century, between 1819 and 1838.
Indeed, the mount and the hinged lid are punched by the old man's hallmark, 1st title, used between 1819 and 1838 for the 950/1000 purity silver, equivalent to sterling silver.

Cruet frame of carved silver, from the 18th century, in rococo style, bearing all its hallmarks of the monarchy period. 
The cruet stand is globally constituted of a elongated oval tray, with two handles, placed on 4 feet. On the tray are the 2 cylindric nacelles, and the supports of cap, linked.
The foliate feet, in pronounced scrolls, look like shells.
The edge of the tray is in curves and cons-curves. This shallow tray, on its inside edge, is carved of aserie of curve streaks, separated by little ribs.
The nacelles, with their side which flare from bottom to top, are ornamented with three big foliate pilasters. 
The tops of the nacelles are circular, with mouldings of ribs.

Silversmith's hallmark: It bears the initials NI. 
Silversmiths' community hallmark: Escutcheon bearing 4 fleurs de lys.

Cigarettes case of silver, from art deco period, in modernist style, around 1925.

The inside is in vermeil.

The round edges of the box allow to do the motif run on its two faces, without interruption. This is a nice motif of striation, sober, elegant, and geometric.

This motif is purely art deco, consisting of an alternation of streaked bands and smooth bands.

Hallmarked with the mention 'argent 1er titre', which means silver, of purity 950/1000. (sterling silver has a purity of 925/1000)

Very good condition with no dents. The hinge and the clasp work well. The inside has to be cleaned.

The handle is delicately chiseled, its edge engraved with a line of chevrons, and its tip presenting an escutcheon, surrounded with a foliage of olive or laurel.
The escutcheon is engraved in its heart with the calligraphic letters ME.

RARE CALICE D'EPOQUE GOTHIQUE EN VERMEIL - CABOCHONS DE MALACHITE ET LAPIS LAZULI - POIDS 625 gr

Le poids est NET puisque toutes les pièces compris l'axe central sont en argent.
Le buvant , le noyau central et le pied sont d'époque gothique avec inscriptions gothiques, fleurs stylisées au coeur de malachite et de lapis lazuli.
Ces parties semblent porter des poinçons non identifiés (voir photos de détail)

Ce CALlCE GOTHIQUE a été transformé en Ciboire au XIX° EN RAJOUTANT une enveloppe intérieure avec rebords et son couvercle , qui sont l'oeuvre de l'orfèvre Poussielgue-Rusand fils et portent les poinçons d'orfèvre et poinçons minerve répétés.

Manufacture d'orfèvrerie et de bronzes pour les églises, Paris. 
Dirigée de 1849 à 1889 par Placide Poussielgue-Rusand (1829-1889). 
A sa mort, la maison devient Poussielgue-Rusand Fils et est dirigée par son fils Maurice Poussielgue-Rusand (1861-1933), 
puis son petit-fils Jean-Marie Poussielgue-Rusand (1895-1967), qui ferme les ateliers en 1963.

MOUTARDIER ET SALERON EN ARGENT - BELGIQUE - DEBUT 19ème

Moutardier et saleron en argent massif , avec leurs verines d'origine en cristal taillé . Belgique , poinçons 1814-1831.
Saleron: Base circulaire à degrés, le premier à doucine , orné d'une frise de feuilles d'eau, le second degré portant un anneau incurvé, à 2 frises de billettes, sur lequel repose le réceptacle de cristal avec sa belle corolle débordante. Le piétement est à 3 pieds boule.
ht: 8.5 cm / diam:8.5 /poids brut : 170 grs.
Moutardier: Même base que le saleron. Cette base porte le haut pot de forme ovoïde, enchassé dans une armature qui présente d'un côté une anse à enroulement à motif de trèfle à quatre feuilles, et à l'opposé une palmette.
Le couvercle est couronné d'une prise en pomme de pin.
Poids d'argent: 127 grammes -
Poids total avec les verines: 253 grammes

Armoiries à la couronne ducale gravées au centre du plateau.
L'huilier est complet, avec ses bouchons poinçonnés.
Plusieurs poinçons sont répétés sur les différents éléments constitutifs de l'ouvrage, plateau, nacelles, pieds, et bouchons :
-Poinçon de charge : PARIS 1762-1768
-Poinçon de décharge profil de tête de chien de 1762-1768
-Poinçon d'orfèvre : JBC symbole: une clé

Jean Baptiste François CHERET fut reçu Maître Orfèvre le 13 juillet 1759 .
(Cf. Henry Nocq "Le poinçon de Paris" vol I page 259)
Du plus pur style Louis XV rocaille , l'ouvrage présente un beau décor finement ciselé :
Pieds à enroulements.
Plateau oblong chantourné, à beaux enroulements profonds sur les bordures.
Nacelles à 4 pilastres torsadés, ornées de branches fleuries.
Couvercles à cannelures à fretel en pigne.
Nacelles à 4 montants feuillagés et fruits;
L'objet doit provenir d'une maison aristocratique, présentant au centre de son plateau
des armoiries aux lions adossés à un écu couronné.
L'ensemble est en parfait état.

Ces poinçons sont apposés sur les différentes parties des ouvrages.

D'époque et de style empire, ces salerons sont en argent plein ciselé, et non en feuilles d'argent repoussé.
Ils reposent sur 3 pilastres à pattes de lion. Ces jambages sont couronnés d'un bouquet à 2 branches en enroulement et palme centrale.
Les jambages sont reliés en partie médiane par des étriers incurvés.
Partie supérieure des salerons, circulaire, à bordure courbe ornée de petites palmettes ciselées.

Verrines de cristal, en bon état, sans ébréchures ni fels. .
Fournis avec deux pelles à sel en argent.

Dimensions : 5.8 cm de hauteur et 7 cm de diamètre .

De style Louis XV , la coupe de forme hémisphérique est montée sur piédouche à base chantournée et décor d'une frise d'oves. 
Les anses en forme de lyre sont accrochées à la coupe par l'intermédiaire d'un coeur

Très bel huilier en argent au poinçon 1er coq , époque Empire.

Pièce d'une belle composition et exécutée avec soin. Voir la précision des ciselures sur les photos de détails.

L'ouvrage est frappé de plusieurs poinçons répétés :

- Poinçon d'orfèvre, initiales JPP , symbole 2 pelles en sautoir

Il s'agit de l'orfèvre Jean-Pierre PELPEL , établi 4 rue des Enfants Rouges à Paris..

- Poinçons 1er coq , employé entre 1798 et 1809 , pour l'argent 1er titre 950/1000.

- Poinçon de grosse garantie Paris, pour l'argent 1er titre 950/1000.

- Poinçon de grosse recense 1809 pour les départements , à la tête de Mercure

ainsi que le poinçon de moyenne recense à la tête d'aigle. regardant à gauche.

Ces poinçons sont répétés sur les différents éléments constitutifs de l'ouvrage.

En outre, la base et les nacelles portent le poinçon à la tête de Mercure , de face.

Composition de style 1er Empire : Large terrasse rectangulaire à pans coupés , ceinturée d'une frise de feuilles d'eau.

Cette terrasse repose sur 4 pieds à pattes de lion.

Colonne centrale formée d'une haute base de carrée ornée de profils masculin et féminin , surmontée de palmes en corolles

d'où se déploie la colonne cylindrique , ou plutôt légèrement tronconique car elle s'affine vers son sommet,

sommet couronné d'un cygne aux ailes déployées.

Nacelles formées de trois pilastres à pattes de lion sommées de larges palmes

On joint 2 beaux carafons en cristal overlay bleu (recollage à un bouchon) quasiment de la même époque (1er tiers 19ème).

Très bon état, sans manques ni cisaillement de l'argent.

Base 26 cm sur 15   -  Hauteur : 30 cm
