PAIR OF SILVER CRUETS FRAMES - BY JEAN-BAPTISTE SIMON LEFRANC SILVERSMITH - PUTTI AND BUTTERFLY COMPOSITION Pair of silver cruets frames, realised by the famous silversmith Jean-Baptiste Simon LEFRANC Poinçon au vieillard 1er titre, Paris 1819-1938, époque restauration Silver net weight : 1.328 grams The stylistic composition is really very charming. The bases, elongated shaped, edged with a frieze of hearts, are placed over four lions paws, linked to the bases by carved palmettos. The nacelles have three pilasters, very decorated of tall etrusc vases with swan necks, surmonted of laurels crowns with butterflies facing each other. We see again the frieze of hearts on the nacelles edges. These nacelles are linked by a charming handle, whom the base is made of a carved half moon, showing a putto laid on a flowered garland, and who is holding a butterfly by a thread. This half moon with the angel is present on each side of the work. The large central handle, etrusc vase shaped, is surmonted by a ring ornamented with palmettos and cornucopias. The finishing of this very rich carved ornamentation is little dot hammered, making the least detail perfect. These cruet frame may be without contest, be classified among the collection pieces of silversmithing. These works bears the silversmith hallmark, JBSL initials, for Jean-Baptise Simon Lefranc, and the silver control hallmark, with the old man profile for the 950/1000 silver (equivalent to sterling silver). This last hallmark was used between 1818 and 1839. Each element composing the work is hallmarked: base, nacelle, etc.., including each baluster of the nacelles. The two items are in very good condition, with no lacks. Height : 32 cm. Lenght : 23 cm. Wide : 23,7 cm. Weight : 1,328 kg. (respectively 666 et 662 grams for each one)
