ALLEGRAIN Christophe-Gabriel - Sculptor born in 1710 and died in 1795 The original sculpture is visible to the Louvre Museum in Paris. Beautiful bright white Carrara marble, of manierist style. Height : 26,5 inches Perfect condition In 1755, the Marquis of Marigny, Director of the King's Buildings , passes command to Allegrain a sculpture of Venus for the Chateau de Choisy. In 1767, the great marble is achieved and presented at the Salon, where it receives praise, including from Diderot whose commentary has remained famous: "Beautiful, beautiful, sublime figure,they say, even the most beautiful, the most perfect figure that the modern have made. The sculpture was acquired by Louis XV in 1772 , who offers to his favorite Madame du Barry for her castle of Louveciennes.
