ART NOUVEAU ENAMELED VASE SIGNED P. BONNAUD IN LIMOGES - DATED 1906 Paul Bonnaud was a famous enamellist artist in Limoges, and his name is inscribed now in the register of the major enamellists in the Limoges tradition Ovoid-shaped, elongated, our vase, adorned with falls of drops, is enameled with a rich polychromy irised and flamed. A palet of nuanced tones That polychromy is made of all a palet of very nuanced colours, which mix themselves at the passage from a tone to other, going from the dark to the clearer, from the base to the top Near the base, deep purples, becoming flammed reds, then clearer pinks or purples, and warmer reds that mix with yellows, giving birth to oranges until to become franker yellows, finally bordering the greens at the top Signed, situated and dated in gold in its lower part : "P. Bonnaud Limoges 1906 ". In very good condition excepted a very little lack of enamel at the base of the body, that we can evaluate on a detail photo
This vase is a nice example of the Limoges enamel of the Art nouveau period, whose Paul Bonnaud is the main protagonist The enamellist launches again, at the turning of the twentieth century, the use of enamel on a volumic basis , tying again durably with one of the most original aspects of the enamelled production in the Renaissance period He parallely develops two kinds of adornments : either figurative, with a vegetal repertory favoring the very fluid use of the curve, or focused on the material, with effects of 'moire', streaks and flames which remind the pole of interest of some ceramists at the same period. The artist engages in interesting artistic collaborations where are associated the enamel and other materials. With Edgar Brandt (1880-1960), about bronze frames, when no one made of wrought iron was at this time known , and few time later with Daum and Majorelle. Opus from Paul Bonnaud are exhibited at the Limoges Museum Height : 23,5 cm Basis of 7 cm diameter Weight: 303 grams
