BIG SEAL OF AGATE - CACHET
IN VERMEIL - EARLY 19th CENTURY
Big seal of agate and
vermeil, baluster shape.
The handle is of carved blond agate, with
beleved or chamfered edges, and smooth faces,
softened in curves and cons-curves.
The handle is
subdivided in two parts, separated by a shrink.
About the color, more precisely, the agate has a
nuanced tone, going from the blond to the red-brown.
The cachet, made of silver covered with a layer
of gold, is in architectural capital shape, and
very nicely chiselled in pronounced embossing,
the hollows nielloed.
The finishing is
hammered with little dots.
This form and its chiselling are really
characteristic of the french restoration period,
beween 1815 and 1830.
The cachet is engraved of calligraphied initials,
which seems to come from the cyrilic alphabet.
The cachet bears a silver control hallmark,
showing a boar head.
In very good condition.
