Edouard Traviès was very soon known as one of the best animalist painters from his time. As such, many works had been ordered to him , many drawings in order to illustrate books about hunting, or about natural sciences. Among these books, let's especially cite the 14 volumes of 'the natural history', by Buffon, once again reissued in1848, just as the universal dictionary of the natural history by Charles d'Orbigny in 1849. Edouard Traviès is still famous for his outstanding still-lifes featuring the hunting birds.
