WARWICK VASE - BRONZE SCULPTURE ACCORDING TO THE ANTIQUE VASE OF HADRIAN'S VILLA IN ROME - 19th CENTURY Cup according to the antique, called Warwick vase, of bronze with brown-green patina. This beautiful sculpture was realised in the mid of the 19th century, according to the antic vase found in the ruins of the Empereur Hadrian's villa in Rome, by Gavin Hamilton, circa 1771 The original vase is a magnificent creation, ornamented with 8 faces treated in high relief, for the most bearded, and with big handles made of interlaced vine shoots Our sculpture is a good quality copy, with well chiselled expressive faces. The pedestal has a squared base, surmounted of a circular part with a large concave molding, carved of fluting. The top part of the pedestal has a cyma moulding decorated of a gadrooned frieze The cup properly speaking has a general section in cyma molding. At its base, leaves vine, treated in bas-relief. Over, occupying the main surface of the ornamentation, a succession of 8 faces, all different, treated in high relief. The faces are those of strapping men, bearded, very expressive. 4 heads on each side, separated by the handles. Over again, a large cornice leaves to overflow leaves vine. At the top of the vase, the last largest overhang is decorated with a gadrooned frieze The cup itself has a green-brown patina, while the pedestal and the handles are in old gold. Hallmark of foundry: Uppercase letter "G" stamped under the base Foundry and provenance : Italy Epoch : 19th century Very good condition of the sculpture bronze aswell as the patinas.
